The Social Democrat Pedro Passos Coelho today defended a "rapid strengthening", in over 10,000 million, the credit line of 20.000 million announced by the Government not to forget liquidity to the market. The former candidate for leadership in Buenos Aires told the PSD, in a debate on the role of the state in the twenty-first century, in which participated along with the Socialist Antonio Jose Seguro, an initiative of the Portuguese Association for Active citizenship.
Passos Coelho justified its proposal with that of the credit line announced by the government to be "used for (financial institutions) renew old lines of financing that are maturing."
"If there is a rapid strengthening in at least 10,000 million, we have averted the collapse of banks, but we will not have guaranteed that there will be credit and financing available to our economy," he said.
In his view, in a country where there is "extreme vulnerability" of businesses, if such reinforcement is not guaranteed "many of these companies may simply have to close doors any time soon."
