EU: Amado denies accusations of Ferreira Leite on EU funds

The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Luis Amado, today denied the accusations of Social Democratic leader that the government is delaying the entry of EU funds to concentrate on pre-election period.

"It's not true. I watch the council of ministers and I know how difficult it has been for the fact that the funds arrive as soon as possible for the Portuguese economy," said Luis Amado to the press in parliament, after a meeting with the commission's Business Foreign and Budget and Finance.

The leader of PSD, Manuela Ferreira Leite, said Sunday in the Curia, which Portugal has not received funds from new framework of community support because of "opportunism and inefficiency" of the government.

"Probably by partisan interests and likely to focus more closely the elections the entry of EU funds, has been detrimental to the country in an unacceptable manner," said the Social Democrat leader.

Speaking at the closing of 2. University of the PSD in Europe, held in Curia, Belfast, Manuela Ferreira Leite said that "have not yet entered any contributions we have right in this new framework" of support.

"You can imagine that some blame bureaucracy in Brussels, when it comes to opportunism and inefficiency of our responsible," said the former Minister of Finance of the Government of Barroso.

The European Commission said today, denying delays in the allocation of EU funds to Portugal, explaining that as part of the cohesion policy, yet they were only intended advances, as the process of evaluating the control system of funding continues.

"I think there is any delay," he said today in Brussels the spokesman for Regional Policy, Dennis Abbott, stating that in the framework of EU 2007/1013, Portugal still only received advances since, as with most other Member States, is not yet finished the analysis of Portuguese control system to ensure that EU funds are properly used.

"Before the funds are allocated for projects in Portugal, the Commission has to check what is called the" assessment of compliance ", ie that each Member State has in place appropriate mechanisms of control" to ensure that the money community are well used and effectively.
